For this example, we're going to use

First, navigate to

Type in your credentials, and hit "Log in"

The WordPress dashboard will load, and you'll be greeted with a menu on the left side of your screen. Hover over "Posts" and select "Add New"

You'll be taken to a screen with a text editor. You may enter a title in the large box directly under "Add New Post," and play around with text in the large box. Try adding some media (Youtube, images, etc!)

You can file this post under a number of different categories. The post must be categorized before it is published. It is acceptable to assign a post to multiple categories, just make sure the categories make sense!

Next, you're going to want to set a featured image. You can accomplish this by scrolling down the page and looking on the right hand side for this box:

The featured image will accompany your post on the front page, and give visitors a brief visual cue about your article.

Click "Set featured image." A screen will pop up that allows you to upload media of your own, or choose from files already available on the website:

Let's select a file that has already been uploaded, and click "Set featured image."

Last step: In order to publish your post to the world, please scroll back up to the menu box top right:

Click "Preview" before publishing! This will keep you from publishing obvious formatting errors to the public!

Am I Ready To Publish? A Quick Checklist:

  • Is the post properly categorized?
  • Does the post have relevant tags?
  • Does the post have a featured image?
  • Does the formatting look correct when previewed?

If you can answer "YES!" to the above questions, click "Publish."

If you need to check on your post after publishing, go back to the menu on the left side and select Posts -> All Posts

That's it! You've published a post, and you are able to check the status of that post from this screen. Happy posting!
