Using RSS2HTML

I have modified/installed a nifty little tool that converts RSS feeds into email-friendly HTML.

Here’s how we can format our RSS feeds to use within OnGage.

First, head to http://americanlibertypac.com/rss2html.php?buildURL

Let’s pretend we want to convert ALPAC’s feed to HTML (this tool will work with any feed) You will see two boxes:

  • URL for the XML file:
  • URL for the template file:

For ALPAC:

  • Our XML File is located at http://americanlibertypac.com/feed/
  • Our URL for the Template File is located at http://americanlibertypac.com/email_template.html (always use this template even if you use a different website’s feed above!)
    • If someone wants to change the visual appearance, let me know and I can work on a template for you
  • Optional (but recommend): Insert a value in the “Maximum Items” box to control how many stories are linked to. I prefer 4-5, but it’s up to you!
  • Ignore the “NoFuture Items” checkbox.

Click “Submit

You should get an output below that reads

It will look like the screenshot to the right:

What you are looking for is the TEST link: http://americanlibertypac.com/rss2html.php?XMLFILE=http://americanlibertypac.com/feed/&TEMPLATE=http://americanlibertypac.com/email_template.html&MAXITEMS=4

This TEST link is formatted for HTML, which makes it perfect for our purposes. You can see the formatting below.

Head to OnGage and edit your email with the following:

This will drop the RSS feed (neatly formatted with HTML) right into your email!

Enjoy! If you have any questions let me know.
