Wordpress RSS Broken After 4.3 Update

Final Verdict: W3TC Plugin was rendering cached RSS feeds as text/html, which broke most RSS readers. Disable W3TC until it's patched.

Well, this is annoying, I have scripts that use Simplepie to pull RSS information from our network of Wordpress sites. Unfortunately, this script no longer works since updating to Wordpress 4.3

According to a post in the help forums, W3TC may be the issue. Going to try disabling that now.

Retrieving RSS with Javascript and NoCache

I use Google Feeds API to power my RSS fetching for a couple applications. One inevitable problem with dynamically accessing RSS feeds is that they tend to be cached.

The easiest cache-busting Javascript trick, in my opinion, is to append your RSS Feed URI with ?nocache and a random value.

UPDATE 4/42015 - Removed the trailing '/' from the RSS URL below. The code will fail with Google Feed's API if you do not remove the trailing '/'. Alternatively, you may replace the ? with & if you wish to leave the slash.

I have modified/installed a nifty little tool that converts RSS feeds into email-friendly HTML.

Here’s how we can format our RSS feeds to use within OnGage.

First, head to http://americanlibertypac.com/rss2html.php?buildURL

Let’s pretend we want to convert ALPAC’s feed to HTML (this tool will work with any feed) You will see two boxes:

  • URL for the XML file:
  • URL for the template file:

For ALPAC:
